Why does furniture have to be empathic?

03.10.2024

Empathic furniture design paves the way towards equal spaces and the future. In an empathetically furnished, egalitarian space, each user is genuinely met as themselves and as a unique individual.

“When the space is furnished with user-oriented furniture, everyone can find a seat of suitable size, on which the feet reach the floor when sitting. When the size of the group increases, it is easy to enlarge the adjustable table so that everyone can fit around the same table to share experiences and create new memories”, the artist-architect couple Partanen & Lamusuo, working as Palad’s designers, give examples of the manifestation of empathy and an empathic footprint in the furniture they design.

Equality is a key part of the empathic footprint launched by Partanen & Lamusuo, on which the design of Palad furniture is based. The furniture that fits the dimensions of different bodies and adapts to the different uses of the space communicates that everyone is welcome in the space.

Empathy and equality have been brought to Palad furniture as an inseparable part: the furniture is modifiable and multi-purpose, and during the ordering phase their size can be scaled and the material choices can be influenced. All Palad furniture is designed and customized to meet a genuine need.

Palad furniture can be used to create meeting places, working environments and spaces for relaxation. The beautiful materials and interesting details of the furniture attract the eye and give the thoughts a moment of rest. Carefully finished surfaces feel comfortable under the hand.

Palad’s slogan also discusses the importance of equality and empathy: Design for All Shapes and Sizes. Suitable for different people, ergonomic furniture creates feel-good oases and welcomes people of all sizes and looks into the space.
