Function meets dignity in courthouse furnishings

When customized mailboxes, bookshelves, and a reception desk were needed for the renovated building of the Court of Appeal and Administrative Court of Eastern Finland, the importance of custom-made work took center stage. Palad designed and implemented the furniture for the space, which not only serves everyday requirements but also harmoniously complements the distinguished environment of the courthouse.

The modular UNU transforms into many purposes

The legal book collection used by the staff of the Court of Appeal and the Administrative Court is extensive and the collection is constantly being supplemented. The bookshelf must be spacious, easy to use, and adaptable to changes in the collection. In addition, the books must be quickly and easily accessible, so Palad designed a modular UNU bookshelf for the space that serves as a staff break room and library.

The modules of the UNU bookshelf are connected with loose shelves, which creates a wavy-looking, united bookshelf. The shelves are attached with dense steps so that it is easy to change the shelf height as needed and the shelf can fit as wide a book collection as possible. The variable width of the modules and the very flexible height adjustment of the shelves make the UNU shelf visually interesting, individual, and practical.

The design of the UNU bookshelf reflects Palad’s design guiding slogan “Design for All Shapes and Sizes”. UNU can be adjusted according to the height of the room, the width of the wall, and the need for use. The UNU shelf can be adapted to any space based on the dimensions given by the client, and the height of the shelves can be varied flexibly to accommodate the book collection, decorative objects, or other accessories.

The UNU bookshelf, custom-designed by Palad for the courthouse, is made up of modular elements. The shelves create an undulating appearance. The closely spaced shelf slots make it easy to adjust the height as needed.

The II-locker compartment brings flexibility and playfulness to everyday life

The design language of the bookshelf is repeated in the II-mailboxes, which Palad custom-designed for the lobby of the staff facilities. The modules of different heights of the II-compartment were composed into a playful whole, which is located near the group of seats placed in the space. The attractive design of the II-locker fits perfectly into the appearance of the premises, and the convenient, easily accessible mailing and messaging system makes everyday life smoother.

The II-locker compartment set can also be implemented for other locations. II can be scaled to different needs and, in addition to mailboxes, serves as a shelf, storage space, or, for example, as a clothes locker in a kindergarten. If the need for space increases, you can easily add II-modules to the composition. The lockers can be placed on the wall at any height, so it is easy to reach, whether the user is a child or an adult or, for example, a person in a wheelchair.

In the visual appearance of both the UNU shelf and the II-locker compartment, you can see references to the ARC™ shelf from the Palad standard collection, whose square-shaped shelves of different sizes can be used to create an ensemble that exactly suits your wishes and needs.

The reception combines safety and aesthetics

In addition to the storage furniture, Partanen & Lamusuo designed a reception desk next to the main entrance of the Court and Administrative Court of Eastern Finland. The design was guided not only by functionality, practicality, and aesthetics but also by the space’s strict safety regulations. Combining different requirements into something visually beautiful was an interesting challenge for Partanen & Lamusuo. Carefully considered material choices meet the requirements of furniture in public spaces, and the design ensures the safety of the space without compromising on aesthetics.

The renovated premises of the Court of Appeal and Administrative Court of Eastern Finland are restrained and elegant, but at the same time fresh and modern. The minimalist design language of the custom-made Palad furniture fits seamlessly with the purpose of the building. Liveliness was brought to the visual appearance of the furniture with carefully considered details, which at the same time increases its usability.
