REX ARC sets the rhythm of the lobby

Palad designed the REX ARC seating for the renovation of BioRex Porvoo’s historic spaces. With its wedge-shaped design, the REX ARC seat offers flexibility in structuring and pacing the space. The chairs can be arranged in a variety of configurations, supporting both the aesthetic and functional needs of the environment.

The lobby areas of BioRex Porvoo feature a minimalist and refined architectural language, and the design of the REX ARC seating introduces a sense of dynamism and spatial tension. The geometry of the furniture enriches the clean architecture with a subtle rhythm, enlivening the space without compromising its calm and balanced atmosphere.

REX ARC chairs can be arranged in straight or curved lines that follow the architecture of the space, or in circular and organically flowing compositions placed at the center of the lobby. This adaptability adds nuance to the interiors and gives the furniture an active role in shaping both the visual identity and functionality of the space.

For BioRex Porvoo, the REX ARC chairs were selected in a silver finish, echoing the tones of the lobby walls and flooring. The satin silver continues into the cinema halls, visually connecting the different areas of the venue. This cohesive color palette enhances the overall visual unity of the spaces and highlights the role of the furniture as an integral part of the holistic interior design.

Palad builds the BioRex identity

BioRex cinemas offer a holistic movie-going experience where comfort, viewing quality, and visual aesthetics merge with glamour and top-tier acoustics. Each cinema is unique, yet all are united by a strong brand identity rooted in the visual concept created in the early 2000s through the collaboration between Partanen & Lamusuo and BioRex.

The captivating design of Palad’s furniture creates cohesion and recognisability across BioRex cinemas: Palad pieces, together with BioRex’s signature shades of bronze, silver, and midnight blue, form the distinctive visual world of BioRex theaters.

Some of the cinemas created through the collaboration between Partanen & Lamusuo and BioRex are entirely new spaces, while others are reborn classics—renovated and updated through comprehensive refurbishments where historical architecture meets contemporary experiential design. Both newly built venues and renovated theaters express BioRex’s signature “wow” experience, each in its own distinctive and personal way.

Palad furniture is designed with a purpose

In the design of Palad’s furniture for public spaces, durability, closeness to nature, and timeless aesthetics are emphasized—values that support BioRex’s principles and customer experience. The aim is to create spaces where viewers can relax and enjoy the film with all their senses.

“Our design philosophy always starts from real needs: spaces, people, and intended use. We design furniture to adapt to different spaces and users, taking into account both physical proportions and the multifunctional nature of spaces,” say Palad brand lead designers Jaana Partanen and Heikki Lamusuo.

Aesthetically appealing and engaging, Palad furniture is designed to solve functional challenges within a space. Palad integrates user-centered design as a core principle: every piece of furniture supports everyday use, invites people in, and feels welcoming to everyone. Accessibility, adaptability, and longevity are key priorities in the design process.

“Empathetic design is our core idea. We want the furniture we design to leave an empathetic footprint in the world. This is reflected in ecological choices such as local production, the use of renewable materials, and ease of maintenance,” explain Palad designers Jaana and Heikki.

Social responsibility is expressed through inclusive design that does not exclude anyone. Locality is part of the Palad brand identity—the furniture is manufactured in Finland in collaboration with local producers, supporting both regional vitality and sustainable development.
